NYC Ferry Pet Policy

Next
June 11, 2026 NYC Ferry

NYC Ferry welcomes pets onboard, but they must follow the guidelines below.

Service animals

Service animals (i.e., animals trained or in training to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability) are allowed onboard and at landings provided they are under the control of their handler.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed onboard and at landings provided they are well-behaved and not disruptive to other passengers, crew members, or the safe operation of any NYC Ferry vessel.

Dogs onboard and at landings must be:

  • Fully house-trained
  • Non-aggressive and quiet
  • Short leashed (e.g., keeping dogs within 2 feet of the owner)
  • Under the control of their handler
  • Not disruptive to other passengers or crew members or in any way interfering with the safe operation of NYC Ferry
  • Not on seats or blocking aisles

Dog owners will be held fully responsible for managing and supervising their dogs at all times onboard and at landings. This may include respecting reasonable modification requests from other passengers and/or crew members related to the dog (e.g., move to a different side of the cabin).

Other Pets

Other pets, with the exception of service animals as defined above, are not allowed onboard or at landings unless they are in a fully enclosed carrier that can fit on your lap or under your seat and do not pose a threat to crew members or other passengers.

Noncompliance with these conditions may result in denial of boarding or requests to disembark the vessel at the discretion of NYC Ferry crew members.
