NYPL: Black History Month Krafty-Noon for Kids

NYPL: Black History Month Trivia

This program will be held in person at the Soundview Library in the Community Room. Wrap up Black History Month with a trivia challenge on Black History Month Jeopardy-style!

Black History Month: Brooklyn and the Abolitionist Movement
Date: Sunday, February 18, 2024 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Juneteenth is a commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans in the United States. Join the Urban Park Rangers on a walk discussing Brooklyn’s significant history to the abolitionist movement in the United States. Registration is required. Registration opens on Wednesday February 7.

Black History Paint Night with Trivia

Join in celebrating African American contributions through art. You will create a stunning masterpiece in an instructional painting workshop. Participants will also engage in a trivia session after creating your one-of-a-kind piece.

NYC Parks: Black History Month: Audre Lorde Park Walk

Celebrate Black History Month with the Urban Park Rangers. Join us on the Audre Lorde Walk at Silver Lake Park as we honor the famous poet and draw inspiration from our surroundings as we practice creating our own poetry.

Snug Harbor – 2024 Black History Month: Painting with Soul

Celebrate Black History with the Staten Island Community Alliance at a free family-friendly event! Enjoy the timeless convocation of a historical Libation Ceremony to acknowledge our ancestors, a drum circle by Greg Taylor, and painting with soul, a self-guided paint project.

BPL – Teen Time: Black History Month Painting

Celebrate the end of Black History Month by learning about iconic black artists that revolutionized painting, including examples from late, Brooklyn-native Jean-Michel Basquiat, who is buried in Sunset Park’s Greenwood Cemetery. There will be watercolor and acrylic paint supplies and examples from art books!
