What says ice cream more than the warm weather and the rising temperatures as we slowly approach the summer season? Luckily for Brooklyn, The Ice Cream Factory at DUMBO is always ready to serve the local residents and thousands of visitors This famous local shop is famous for its freshly in-house made ice cream and hot fudge. It was first established in 2001 by current owner Mark Thompson, and it’s first original location is in a converted 1922 landmark fireboat house on the Fulton Ferry Landing Pier, which features one of most stunning views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan skyline & Statue of Liberty all at once. A second shop is located at 97 Commercial Street in Greenpoint [Brooklyn], which opened in 2007 when the original location had more customers than ice cream (Brownstowner). The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory specializes in small batch productions at both locations.

Unlike most ice cream shops that only open for the summer season (as it would be expected), The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory is operates all year round to satisfy your ice cream cravings. It is open 7 days a week from 12pm to 10pm, and during the winter months it offers flavors just for the season, as well as hot chocolate, apple cider, and hot coffee to keep you warm. The current flavors for summer 2017 are Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Chunk, Peaches and Cream, Butter Pecan, and Coffee (visit brooklynicecreamfactory.com for more information). Payments are only acceptable in cash, so be prepared to enjoy all the factory flavors. All products sell at $4.00 to $10.00, but drones of people leaving high ratings for this small local shop prove again and again that it is more than worth it.

How to get there?

DUMBO is easily accessible by land or water, so whether you want to take the train or bike to this small place of wonders, there are options for you. For those traveling from the  Manhattan Financial District Area, hopping on one of the NYC Ferry boats is the best option (visit ferry.nyc/routes-and-schedules/route/east-river/ for more information). The ride only takes 5 minutes from Pier 11/Wall St, and about 20 minutes from 34th St. The ride provides a stunning view of the city, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. So, now that the summer is approaching, stop by the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and refresh yourself with in-house made ice cream.
