The 2017 Queensboro Dance Festival (QDF) opens July 19-20 outdoors at the Hunter’s Point Park waterfront in Long Island City.  Unique to the festival, every dance group presented is from Queens, this year representing 12 different neighborhoods spanning anywhere from Astoria to Howard Beach.  This season features a spectrum of dance styles including Indian Kathak, tap, Chinese Lion Dancing, aerial silks, Japanese, modern, Colombian folk, house, bellydance, Bhangra, and more.

This year’s QDF performance season runs in two parts:  July 19-20 outdoors, then October 5-8 at the Secret Theatre in Long Island City.  July outdoor performances include a special pre-show VIP happy hour at the nearby Crabhouse restaurant (2-03 Borden Ave, Long Island City), featuring an exclusively Queens-themed raffle and gift bags to enhance the audience outdoor experience.  Tickets to the VIP happy hour at the Crabhouse are $20 online/$25 at the door. Attending only the performances at the Hunter’s Point Park waterfront is free to the public.

The Queensboro Dance Festival is an annual season of performances and public events for Queens-based cultural and contemporary dance groups.  Founded in 2014, the festival’s mission is to strengthen the dance community across Queens and garner a greater appreciation for Queens dance.  Throughout the season of performances, QDF also offers participants free dance classes, meet-and-greets, discounted rehearsal space, special access to various Queens arts institutions, and free outdoor previews in various neighborhoods called “The QDF Neighborhoods Tour,” as opportunities for dancers to connect with their own neighborhoods.
