Take NYC Ferry’s South Brooklyn Route to Red Hook to tour and explore PortSide NewYork’s historic ship, the old tanker MARY A WHALEN.

The ship is open from 12-6 pm. Learn what it means to be a bell boat, hear stories about the crew and the Supreme Court case involving the MARY, and imagine what it was like to live and work aboard the 81-year-old coastal oil tanker. This is also a way to learn more about Red Hook past and present via PortSide’s digital maritime museum at This covers the history of the fascinating peninsula or Red Hook and contains a complete guide to the bars, restaurants, shops and transit in the Hook.
